New Program Series in Chatham County Helps Farmers Build Profitability and Resilience

Siler City, NC – The Siler Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Central Carolina Community College Small Business Center in Chatham County, is launching Impact the AREA: Agricultural Resilience, Entrepreneurship & Adaptability, a four-part series designed to help local farmers strengthen their bottom line and prepare for the future.

The program will highlight innovative farm and agribusiness models that move beyond traditional practices. Each session features successful operations and real-world examples of how farmers can increase profitability through regenerative farming, agritourism, direct-to-consumer sales, and sound financial management.

Participants will gain insights through farm tours, interactive presentations, and networking opportunities with fellow farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs. The series aims to equip attendees with practical tools for diversification, growth, and long-term resilience.

Program Schedule:

Sept. 18 | Harris Homeplace Farm (4 to 6 p.m.)
Regenerative Farming Practices & Profitability – Learn how Harris Homeplace Farm integrates soil health improvements with innovative revenue streams. Farm tour included.

Sept. 25 | Millstone Creek Orchards (4 to 6 p.m.)
Agritourism for Revenue Growth – See how Millstone Creek Orchards successfully expanded into agritourism. Explore ways to attract visitors, create experiences, and generate new income. Farm tour included.

Selling at Farmers’ Markets – Tour the student farm and discover strategies for succession planting, diverse crop planning, and scaling production to meet consumer demand.

Financial Management & Bookkeeping for Agribusinesses – Learn to track income and expenses, manage cash flow, and read financial reports to make informed business decisions.

“This series was created to provide our local farmers with some alternative ways to increase profitability and boost revenue, said Chatham’s Small Business Center Coordinator, Phillip Pappas. “By showcasing innovative practices and proven models, we hope to help strengthen farm businesses across Chatham County.”
